The Fang Gang: Angel, the Series

Redemption is one of the main themes on both series. Several of the main characters have fallen from 'grace' and in some cases have risen once again or have at least tried to.

Some of the Fang Gang that have fallen and have either redeemed themselves or are at least starting down the path are:

Angel, Wesley, Cordelia, Gunn, Fred and Connor.

There are also non-Fang Gang members in the Buffy/Angel universe that are also 'fallen angels':

Faith, Lindsey, Drusilla and Darla.

Attention: Many sections have Season 4 spoilers!

Angel: Nothing in the world is the way it aught to be. It's harsh. And cruel. That's why there's us. Champions. Doesn't matter where we come from, what we've done, suffered, or even if we make a difference, we live as though the world were as it should be. To show it what it can be.

"This show is really about redemption and seeing a man come to grips with his own fate and accepting that rather then masking it and becoming, you know, human again, having a chance because it was taken away from him at such a yound age. He's been around for 250 some years now, so and he's been living with this curse and it was forseable when he was not this evil, demon person and because I think that if he had a second chance then maybe he'd have been different. So I think he's actually looking for some salvation, some worth, some cause to try to give back what he's taken."
David Boreanaz in an interview on HyperSpace, December 2003

“It's a big arc for us,” says David Boreanaz about Faith (Eliza Dushku), showing up for several episode of AtS. “It's been great. The two characters (Angel and Faith) really get along well together. They owe each other a lot. Because of that there's a lot of understanding. That's why, when she hears Angelus is out, she automatically breaks out of prison. She doesn’t even think it, she's out. Because of what he's done for her. And they share that common bond. So it's going to be interesting to see how Angelus relates to Faith, because he's never met her before and this is going to be fun for him. So we're in the Faith arc right now, which is going to lead us to another arc with Gina Torres [formerly of Whedon’s FIREFLY] coming in. So that's going to be even bigger.”
Ultimately, Boreanaz’s main hope for the show is for the characters to continue to grow and change.
“That's the area we want to focus on,” he says. “We got so thick into so much exposition, and such heavy angles for each character that when you look at what works for our show it’s that you see that each character has so many dimensions. And that's what really makes Angel work.” (Source)
