Wesley Wyndham-Pryce (BIO)
The New Watcher
Darker Wesley
Lilah

Wesley (Origins: Old English; The west meadow.) Source

I think that 'Wesley' feels like he has fallen and needs to redeem himself, but I don't feel like he has fallen at all. Wesley wants to save people, be it from themselves (Lilah) or from evil.

There are three main things that have turned Wesley around and around this past year:

The last point is what forced him to look at his life and change it. Even when he was fired by the Watcher's Council and became a *Rogue* Demon Hunter he never lost his innocence. Wesley never fit into the Scooby Gang and so when he left them/got kicked out, it didn't hurt him except for his pride. Having all of his friends in the Fang Gang turn their backs on him, when he was trying to do what he thought to be the right thing, hurt him deeply. We see a new side of Wesley, he opens his own agency and hires his own crew. He leads them and is forthright and self-assured for the first time. Wesley wasn't looking to others for direction or praise, he just went out and did it because he had to 'fight the good fight' and not give up helping others when he could still do something to help them.

We saw a different side of Wesley in Billy (S3,Ep6) where men where being infected by Billy, they would get very angry and violent towards women, going so far as to kill them even if they were married. Wesley and Cordy have a talk about relationships within the agency and his feeling towards Fred. He doesn't do anything about his feelings because of all the things he said and tried to do to Fred because of Billy's power. Fred forgave him, but Wesley couldn't forgive himself for not controlling himself enough and hurting someone he cares for. Wesley can't accept the fact that this darker side of him exists, even exists in all of us deep down. He never realized what he felt deep down or how violent he can become. It's the first time that I can remember that we see this side of Wesley.

Since Wesley can't forgive himself he seems to choose not to say anything to Fred. It isn't until Waiting in the Wings (S3,Ep13) that he start to think about talking to her and his feelings are truly out in the open and admitted to Cordy. It's been so obvious that Cordy makes a point of pushing him at Fred, to finally admit to her what he felt before it was too late. "Well, get it done, Johnny Reb. So I can hear about something else and you can do something else besides feeling your hot iron."

"But the basic 'Johnny reb' is a born fighter with a mission." (Source)

"Union soldiers had several names for the Confederates including:
'Johnny'- Short for Johnny Reb.
'rebels' or 'rebs'- Because they were considered to be in rebellion. (Source)

Unfortunately, Cordy isn't as observant as she would like to think she is, she never saw Fred's attraction, and vise versa, to Gunn. Waiting in the Wings (S3,Ep13) is the first time that Fred and Gunn admit their feelings to one another and where Wesley learns that he is too late and he is heartbroken:

"Pull back to reveal Wesley standing nearby watching them. He slowly turns and walks away. (...)
The figure drops to its knees: reveal Wesley. He bows his head in anguish as the music of the ballet swells to a tortured crescendo." (see full scene)

Wesley continues to look at Fred and wish that things were different, he even follows her through her published work in Physics, Supersymmetry (S4,Ep5). Lilah notices and even dresses up for him as Fred (see clip below, Apocalypse Nowish - S4,Ep6).

In Salvage (S4,Ep13) we see him morn over Lilah's death as he imagines himself talking with her. We learn a bit more about his relationship with Lilah, his secret dreams or wants. He wanted to save her from herself, from her chosen life on the side of 'evil'. His relationship with Lilah was his 'dirty little secret' that he didn't want anyone to know, especially not Fred (see clip below, Calvary S4,Ep12), but Angelus lets that secret out as well. In Salvage (S4,Ep13) we learn a bit more about how Wesley feel about Lilah:

"Come on, what are you worried about, Wesley? You hated yourself for being with me. Or maybe, you just hated yourself for loving being with me. Hey, semantics. In any case, we both knew sooner or later it would come to messy end. For one of us, anyway. (...)
So ease up on that furrowed brow. You’re free now. No longer encumbered with the secret shame of our relationship." Salvage (S4,Ep13)
This is Wesley's imagination talking to him as Lilah.

Wesley studied everything he could find and asked everyone, even a god, about the prophecy concerning Angel and Connor. In the end all he found out was, "The Father will Kill The Son".

Wesley was going to run away with Connor and raise him himself, thus saving Connor. On his way out of town Justine Cooper, one of Holtz's present day soldiers, stops him by slashing his throat (leaving him for dead), stealing his car and baby Connor. She brings Connor to Holtz so that they both can raise him out west (see clip in Oedipus, "Sleep Tight" - S3,Ep16). Much to her shock things get rather complicated and Holtz escapes from Angel and Lilah's soldiers by jumping through a portal into the Quor-toth dimension (see clip in Oedipus, "Sleep Tight" - S3,Ep16).

You can also go to Oedipus for more information about Connor's birth and kidnapping.

Angel couldn't accept any reason at all for why Wesley, a trusted friend, would hurt him by kidnapping his child and loosing him to Angel's enemy Holtz. Angel attempts to kill Wesley, but is stopped by Gunn and Fred, but he does threaten his life repeatedly. Forgiving (S3, Ep17)

From time to time the Fang Gang goes to Wesley for help, seeing him as the only one that could help them, but never asking him back. None of the members seem to want to go against Angel's wishes by asking Wesley back. In the end an apocalypse brings them together in their hour of need.

I think Wesley will always beat himself about failing his friends, about not saving Lilah, but he has to realize that the past is in the past and to move on. He has come a long way from the whinny, uptight idiot from the Watcher's Council from season 3 of BtVS.

AOL Host: Wesley has evolved quite a bit, as this season has shown. At what point did you realize that character was going to be more complex than he was when he was first introduced on 'Buffy' as a sort of Giles Lite?
Joss Whedon: "Well, you know, on 'Buffy' we had a great time just having him be as dorky as possible. There comes a point with every character where you say -- where they say, can I be cool now? Alexis was like, how can I be dorkier? What can I do to be sillier? How can I fall down more? Let's think this through." he continues, "When we brought him on 'Angel,' we knew we would want to find what made that character tick. It really is fun, particularly with tonight's episode, to see exactly how he has evolved. When somebody becomes a regular on a show, you know, they can't be a caricature. You have to find out what makes them behave in such a silly fashion. You know, in Wesley's case, it had a lot to do with the way people perceived him and a lack of self-confidence and a lot of naivete, a lot of which he has lost."

*Rogue* Demon Hunter

Cut to a brick building at night. The camera pans over to show a motorcycle parked across the street.
Cut to Angel stepping out of an elevator into a hallway with one of the lights on the fritz.
Cut to the boots of the motorcycle guy walking up the stairs.
Cut to Angel walking up to a door. The camera shows the silhouette of the motorcycle guy, holding a crossbow by his side illuminated momentarily by the blinking light next to the elevator.
Angel touches the door frame and examines his fingers, then spins around as the door opposite opens. It’s a maid pulling a cleaning cart. She smiles at Angel and he smiles back, then opens the apartment door, only to get pushed into it from behind.
He turns around to find a crossbow aimed at him by a dark figure. The guy in black leather steps forward and we see that it’s Wesley.

WESLEY: Hello, Angel.
ANGEL: (with his hands in his pockets) Wesley.
WESLEY: I wager you thought, you’d never see me again.
ANGEL: To tell you the truth I hadn’t given it much thought one way or the other. What are you…”
Wesley still pointing the crossbow at Angel’s face: Hup-up-up! I’m the one asking the questions here. I think it only fair to warn you, any sudden movement and I’d be forced to… (Angel casually bats the crossbow out of his hand) Right. You had a question?”
ANGEL: (suppresses a smile and walks around Wesley): Interesting look for you. Motorcycle. The Watchers Council trying out a new image?”
WESLEY: (walks further into the apartment) In point of fact I no longer work for the Council. I came to the conclusion that I was of greater value to the cause working autonomously.
Wesley stumbles over something and catches himself on the edge of the bed.
ANGEL: They fired you.
WESLEY: Hardly. With Buffy unwilling to follow Council orders there was simply no opportunity to function as Watcher. And that’s why I became a rouge demon hunter.
ANGEL: You’re a demon hunter?
WESLEY: *Rogue* demon hunter! And I’m on the trail of a particularly nasty bugger right now. So, I suggest you stay out of my way.
ANGEL: Easy, tiger. I think you might be making a mistake. If we’re talking about the same demon here, he seems pretty harmless to me.

Parting Gifts (S1,Ep10)

Love Revealed

GUNN and Angel are on the couch playing a video game. FRED sits next to Gunn, watching while WESLEY pours Cordelia a cup of tea in the kitchen.
WESLEY: It’s inspiring to see you like this. The initiative you’ve shown in
training with Angel, taking responsibility. I’m proud of you.
CORDELIA: Well, never hurts to be prepared.
WESLEY: I agree. We should all be battle ready. Every one of us.
GUNN: (to Angel) Dead! So dead! So very, very dead. Just how dead are you, huh?
ANGEL: I’m tired of being the dead one.
Wesley regards the three of them through the open kitchen door.
WESLEY: I was thinking perhaps I’d enter into a similar training arrangement with our Fred.
CORDELIA: Oh, hey, if you think she can help you fight, why not? (off Wesley’s withering look) I’m kidding. Wesley, if you want to get to know Fred better, maybe the next time you have her over for an intimate dinner for two, you won’t ask the rest of us to come along.
WESLEY: (nervous) I don’t… I mean… Was I that obvious?
GUNN: Yes! Ha, ha!
CORDELIA: I don’t think anybody else noticed.
WESLEY: She is a rather extraordinary young woman. Still, the last thing any of us should be doing is… coupling with each other, I mean, office romances, even under the most normal circumstances…
CORDELIA: We don’t live in normal circumstances. I mean, what are the odds of any of us actually finding someone out there who can deal with the kind of stuff we have to deal with? I don’t know. Maybe we are meant…
WESLEY: For each other?
CORDELIA: Actually I was going to say to be alone” but what the heck. Wesley, if you like her, tell her. Just go right up to her and… (frowns and sways unsteadily with a vision) hug her into little pieces.

Billy (S3,Ep6)

Billy's Game

Fred hesitantly walks back into the office and sits in the chair in front of Wesley’s
desk.

WESLEY: There’s something we need to discuss.
FRED: I’m sorry I didn’t tell you Cordelia left. Really I am.
Wesley waves his hand dismissively.
WESLEY: We’re past that. I’ve put it behind me. However, we are going to have to make some changes around here.
FRED: Change can be good, I guess.
WESLEY: Like no more of these provocative little outfits you wear.
Wesley pulls the strap of Fred’s dress off her shoulder. She pulls it back up.
FRED: Provocative?
Wesley sits down on the edge of the desk in front of Fred.
WESLEY: Maybe mommy and daddy never explained to you that men— grown men— are wired a certain way. You can’t be coming in here day after day waving it in my face like this.
FRED: What?
WESLEY: You’re practically daring me to take it. Is that what you want?
Fred jumps up out of her chair.
FRED: Stop it!
WESLEY: Oh, are we standing now? Is that what we’re doing?
Fred backs away.
FRED: This conversation is making me very uncomfortable.
WESLEY: Oh, you’re uncomfortable. That’s rich! How do you think I feel? What do you think it’s like for me with you smelling the way you do?
FRED: Wesley, please…
Wesley gets right up in her face.
WESLEY: You think you can taunt a man and get away with it? You brush up close, bat your eyes and then when our backs are turned, you laugh at us.
FRED: No, I would never…
WESLEY: Humiliate us. You think you can do anything you please because you’re connected to life, because you bleed, is that it?
FRED: No!
Wesley slaps her hard across the face and she falls to the floor.
WESLEY: (cold) I’ll show you blood.
Fred runs to the door but before she can get it open, Wesley yanks her from behind by the hair and throws her to the lobby floor.
WESLEY: What do you tell a woman who has two black eyes? Nothing you haven’t already told her twice.
Fred picks herself up and runs upstairs.
WESLEY: No sense of humor.
Wesley pulls his tie off and walks around the lobby, stretching his shoulders and massaging his neck. His gaze comes to rest on a battle axe in the weapons cabinet.
(...)
Wesley mounts the hotel stairs, axe in hand. A mattress leans against the corner of the landing. He enters the hallway and starts methodically checking each room.
WESLEY: Fred? Fred? I know what you’re doing. What you’re up to. Luring me. Forcing me to find you. Oh, it’s such a dog-and-pony show. You beguile me with your girlish ways… I pursue you but you never give over, do you? No, you just keep laughing and running. Well, guess what, my love? I’m not some downy-faced schoolboy.
He pushes open a final door. This one has the safety chain locking it in place. Wesley kicks the door off its hinges.
WESLEY: I’m a man.
The room is dark and deserted, only a can of paint, a ladder and some random furniture inside.
WESLEY: You can’t come out into the open, can you? No, you hide, you deceive. It’s nothing new. It goes all the way back to Eve. You and the serpent plotting behind our backs. Here, honey, eat this. It’s just an apple. That’s the problem with your sex: you’re all weak and you’re all dirty and you won’t be satisfied until you’ve brought each and everyone of us out of the Garden and down into the muck with you!
Wesley smashes a stool with his ax, shattering it and sending tools scittering across the floor. A smothered gasp and Wesley’s head snaps around to the bed in the corner. He walks over to it.
CU: Fred’s wide eyes beneath the bed, staring at Wesley’s shoes.
She gasps as Wesley throws the mattress against the wall. He glares down at her
through the frame.

WESLEY: Why do you make me do this?
Fred whimpers as Wesley pulls her out from under the bed by her neck and pushes her up against the wall. He leans in to kiss her only to wince in pain as Fred buries a nail in his shoulder and knees him in the crotch.
As Wesley doubles over in pain, Fred bolts from the room.
(...)
"Gunn comes into the hotel, but he manages to get infected with the same blood that Wesley touched. Gunn starts to act violent and asks Fred to knock him out so that she is safe from him. Fred says she can't do that and that's when Gunn starts to get nasty, in the end Fred knocks him out. She's now safe from Gunn, but Wesley is still out there after her."
(...)
Wesley pushes against the door, forcing the dresser back inch by inch until he manages to squeeze into the room. He finds Gunn lying unconscious on the floor.
WESLEY: Would you like to hear my theory, Fred? It’s about how stupid you are. I believe that after five years of living in a cave, you’ll instinctively retreat to small dark places, rather than run outside where you’d be safe.
The floor creaks beneath his feet and Wesley looks down at a tarp covering the floor in front of him. He walks around the tarp to the closet.
WESLEY: Let’s finish this.
He pulls the closet door open and sees Fred’s reflection in the mirror on the inside of the door.
FRED: I’m sorry, Wesley.
He turns to face her.
WESLEY: You’re sorry?
FRED: You were right about me liking dark places to hide in.
Wesley raises his ax and slowly walks toward her.
FRED: But you forgot I also like to build things.
Fred pulls a rope and a fire extinguisher swings down and hits Wesley, knocking him back onto the tarp. He falls through the weak spot in the floor and crashes down to the lower floor. Fred looks down at Wesley lying sprawled unconscious in the room below.
(...)
Wesley sits in his apartment staring at the sun shining in through one of the windows. He doesn’t move when a knocks sounds at the door.

FRED: (o.s.) Wesley? Wesley, it’s me, Fred.
After a beat, he gets up and walks slowly over to open the door. Fred gasps when she sees the bruise on the side of Wesley face.
FRED: Oh, does that hurt?
She lifts a hand to his face but Wesley pulls away. He avoids looking at her.
FRED: Sorry. I left a bunch of messages.
WESLEY: Yes. I meant to call you back. I’m sorry. (whispers) I’m so sorry.
FRED: Wesley, you gotta come back to work.
WESLEY: How can I?
FRED: What do you mean? How can you not? You’re the boss. We need you. You took a few days off. That’s good. We all did. But now it’s time to come back.
WESLEY: Fred, I tried to kill you.
Fred smiles and shakes her head.
FRED: That wasn’t you.
WESLEY: How can you know that? Something inside me was forced to the surface. Something primal, something…
FRED: Do you want to kill me?
WESLEY: Oh, god, no.
FRED: It wasn’t something in you, Wesley. It was something that was done to you.
WESLEY: I don’t know what kind of man I am anymore.
FRED: Well, I do. You’re a good man. Will I see you back at the office?
WESLEY: Yeah.
FRED: Good.
Fred leaves and Wesley closes the door behind her. When she’s gone, he quietly begins to cry.
In the hallway, Fred stops and turns back when she hears Wesley sobbing. She hesitates for a moment, takes a step back toward his door, then turns and walks away.

Billy (S3,Ep6)

Feelings Revealed

CORDELIA: But not for another month or so. I’ll file her under pending. You’re gonna ask her out?
WESLEY: The Ravager?
CORDELIA: Fred.
WESLEY: Oh. Yes, but you know… timing. I’ll make my move when I feel the iron is hot.
CORDELIA: Well, get it done, Johnny Reb. So I can hear about something else and you can do something else besides feeling your hot iron.
WESLEY: Am I very boring on the subject?
CORDELIA: (smiles) You know, there was a time when you thought I was the loveliest thing in the world.
WESLEY: (nervous) Well, I… you’re an extraordinary woman. (off Cordelia’s look) I…
CORDELIA: At ease, soldier. Just like to hear it every now and then. I was the ditziest bitch in Sunnydale, could have had any man I wanted. Now I’m all superheroey and the best action I can get is an invisible ghost who’s good with the loofah.
She hesitates a moment, then looks over at Wesley. He quickly looks back down at his book.
WESLEY: I’m sorry. I missed that last part.
CORDELIA: You are a gentleman.
ANGEL (o.s.) Who’s doing what with the loofah?
Wesley looks over as ANGEL enters the office.
WESLEY: Not loofah, Looh-fah Nooctm… Skumth. It’s a demon.

Waiting in the Wings (S3,Ep13)

One Broken Heart

Farther down the corridor, Fred kneels next to Gunn, performing impromptu first aid on his wound.
GUNN: That’s good. That should hold. You okay? You hurt?
FRED: I’m fine. I just thought… I’m sorry. I shouldn’t fall apart like this.
GUNN: (smiles) You scared I’m gonna die on you?
FRED: Charles, don’t even…
GUNN: (dramatic) And all I ask is one last kiss as the light is dimming.
He laughs.
FRED: You think that’s funny?
GUNN: It’s just a scratch!
FRED: I thought it was… I—
GUNN: Hey. Hey.
He reaches over and pulls her close, caressing her cheek.
GUNN: You really that worried about me?
FRED: You probably think I’m an idiot.
GUNN: I think if you care that much, the wound is definitely deep.
FRED: The light is dimming?
GUNN: And all I ask… is one… last…
He leans forward and their lips meet in a tender kiss.
Pull back to reveal Wesley standing nearby watching them. He slowly turns and
walks away.

Farther down the corridor. The sound of a sword tip dragging along the floor. A pair of black-clad legs shamble into frame.
The figure drops to its knees: reveal Wesley. He bows his head in anguish as the
music of the ballet swells to a tortured crescendo.

Waiting in the Wings (S3,Ep13)

Confrontation

Wesley talks on the phone in his office while Gunn and Fred wait in chairs in front of his desk.
WESLEY: (into phone) Yes, Ms. Frakes. We are, too. You’re welcome. Good bye.
(hangs up) Well, Ms. Frakes is very happy. You saved her fiancé’s life.
FRED: So he’s gonna be okay?
WESLEY: Yes.
GUNN: That’s good.
WESLEY: Yes.
A long pause.
WESLEY: Well, good work. You should probably get cleaned up, then.
Fred and Gunn stand.
FRED: Yeah. Good idea.
WESLEY: Charles. A word?
FRED: Well, good night.
GUNN: Good night. (to Wesley) What is it?
WESLEY: When you knew this was more than just a tryst you should have told me.
GUNN: It happened so fast. The thing just grabbed the guy and he was gone.
WESLEY: That’s… that’s not what I meant.
GUNN: Oh. You mean… well, I’m not so sure that’s any of your business.
WESLEY: No. You’re probably right. Still… she could get hurt. I trust that won’t happen?
GUNN: What are you, her brother?
WESLEY: Apparently.
GUNN: (beat) Wesley, I—
WESLEY: She chose. It’s just important to me that she’s taken care of.
GUNN: She will be.
WESLEY: Good.
Wesley picks up his pen and goes back to translating the open book in front of him. Gunn watches for a moment, then leaves.

Couplet (S3,Ep14)

Prophecy

Wesley translates the son and writes it down on his notepad. He stares emotionlessly at it as Angel enters carrying Connor.
ANGEL: Working late?
WESLEY: Yes. You startled me.
ANGEL: Oh, we didn’t mean to.
WESLEY: I thought I was alone.
Yeah. (smiles at Connor) So did I.
Wesley watches as Angel kisses Connor’s cheek and heads back upstairs.
He looks back down at the notepad. Pull back to reveal the full translation:

The Father
will Kill
The Son

Couplet (S3,Ep14)

More Prophecy

Wesley follows the readout of an electronic GPS locator.
WESLEY: Thirty-four degrees, twelve minutes north. 118, 21 west.
The device emits a soft chime.
WESLEY: This… must be it.
He looks up to find himself standing before a man-sized caricature of smiling hamburger. It’s the ordering device in the drive-thru of a fast food restaurant. The lights inside shut off and the employees leave.
WESLEY: (to hamburger) You’re supposed to be a statue. I guess you are… sort of.
He takes out a small leather bag.
WESLEY: If this doesn’t work, I’m going to kill that wizard.
He dumps the powder in the bag over the hamburger, then holds his hand up in front of him, palms out.
WESLEY: (chants) Mange sec Loa, alegba. Accept this offering and open the gates of truth.
A crimson light flashes and the hamburger suddenly comes to life. It expands and towers over Wesley, its eyes glowing a baleful red.
LOA: How dare you call on the Loa!
WESLEY: I come in supplication, oh great one, begging for answers to questions only your power can reveal.
LOA: You have answers, human. You search now only for the question.
WESLEY: Is it true? Will Angel really kill his son as it says in the prophecies?
LOA: That the vampire will devour his child is certain. The dark question you harbor is only when.
WESLEY: No. The dark question I harbor is how do I stop it?
LOA: It cannot be stopped.
WESLEY: It has to be stopped! There must be a way…
Electric-red bolts of energy shoot from the Loa’s eyes into Wesley, knocking him to the ground.
LOA: Your insolence is displeasing.
Wesley picks himself back up.
WESLEY: You try chatting with a cranky hamburger.
LOA: You risk your life, human, calling on the Loa. Perhaps what you really seek is death. The pain in your heart begs for it.
WESLEY: Then do it and be done. Nothing else will stop me.
LOA: Simple mortal, your pain is just beginning. Betrayal and agony lie in wait and time is running out, yet still you ignore the question.
WESLEY: All right then, when? When will this happen?
LOA: The first portent will shake the earth. The second will burn the air. The last will turn the sky to blood.
WESLEY: An earthquake? That’s the first portent? We live California!
LOA: Earthquake, fire, blood. Be heedful of the signs, human, and trouble the Loa no more.
The light in the Loa’s eyes fades and it shrinks back down to the mundane hamburger-shaped ordering device it originally was.

Loyalty (S3,Ep15)

The Deal

INT. HOLTZ’S STRONGHOLD
One of Holtz’s soldiers draws a knife and moves for Wesley.

SOLDIER Maybe we should cut out his tongue, send a message to Angelus.
WESLEY: Maybe.
Wesley calmly decks the man, dropping him to the floor. Holtz raises a hand to stop others from attacking Wesley.
WESLEY: (to soldier) Or perhaps you could lie on the floor and gag for a while. (to Holtz) I didn’t come here to fight. I’m not your enemy. But then I’ve noticed you do have trouble making that distinction. You’re fighting the wrong man.
HOLTZ: Angelus.
WESLEY: No. Angel. He’s not Angelus anymore. He’s a good man.
HOLTZ: He’s not even a man.
WESLEY: Nevertheless, he has a soul now.
HOLTZ: Yes. That he might know the pain that he has inflicted on his countless victims. A brilliant curse, I must admit. Gypsies do have a knack for creative vengeance. Where they fail, however, is in the execution of justice. And that I will have.
WESLEY: If it’s a sacrifice you require, take me. Angel’s no more responsible for the crimes of Angelus than I am.
HOLTZ: Really?
WESLEY: Yes.
HOLTZ: And was it your hands that held down my beloved Caroline as she was violated and murdered? That wrapped themselves around my son’s neck and snapped it like kindling? Were yours the hands that clutched at my daughter as she was turned into a creature damned for all eternity? Angelus is in his nature. The beast will re-emerge. You’ve seen it. You know it. And that is why you are here. You’re afraid he’s going to kill the child… and you’re right.
WESLEY: Your infiltration was more successful than I’d realized.
HOLTZ: I don’t need prophecies to tell me what is plain. So long as the child remains with the demon, it’s not safe.
WESLEY: Well, I must have misunderstood. Here I thought it was a simple blood vendetta when what you really want is to protect Angel’s son.
HOLTZ: You don’t believe me.
WESLEY: Hmm. Not sure really. Could be the low scary voice that’s giving me trouble.
HOLTZ: It’s time to make a decision, Mr. Wyndam-Pryce. My army is strong and will only increase in number. Fight against us and this war will become a bloodbath.
WESLEY: This isn’t war. It’s revenge.
JUSTINE What’s wrong with revenge? It’s all some of us have left.
WESLEY: Look, I can’t know what it’s been like for any of you.
HOLTZ: You might soon enough. (beat) When I put my son’s body into the ground, I had to open the coffin just to know that he really was in there. You also may discover that a child’s coffin, Mr. Wyndam-Pryce, it weighs nothing.

Loyalty (S3,Ep15)

Decisions

INT. HYPERION HOTEL— ANGEL: ’S SUITE— DAY 22
As Angel carries Connor to his crib, he hears a knock at the door.
ANGEL: Come on in. (to Connor) It’s okay. Shh. I’ll get you some food. You’re hungry, aren’t you? (to Wesley) Have a nice walk? How’re you doing? Really?
He lights the gas stove to heat up a bottle.
WESLEY: I’ve had better days.
ANGEL: I know the feeling. I figured it out— how I really knew about Aubrey. All that pain, that rage… the only way she could deal was to join Holtz, take her revenge. You know how I knew that?
WESLEY: Because you would have done the same.
ANGEL: It scares me, you know? If anything like that ever happened to Connor, I don’t know what I’d… I love my son.
WESLEY: Love can be a terrible thing.
ANGEL: I used to think that. I thought love was something that swallowed you whole, ripped you up inside, but what I feel for Connor, even that fear… Wes, it’s not terrible. It’s beautiful.
Wesley looks down and begins to laugh quietly. Angel smiles back.
ANGEL: What’s so funny?
WESLEY: Life. Life is funny. Listening to stupid people talking to hamburgers is funny. Worrying about things that will never… it’s all so incredibly funny and beautiful.
As Angel takes the bottle off the stove, another more powerful earthquake rocks the hotel. Pots and pans tumble out of the cupboards.
Angel gathers Connor up from his crib.
ANGEL: Come on, kid.
(...)
He jumps over the burning girder and heads for the door. He turns to find Wesley staring blankly into the flames.
ANGEL: Wesley, get out!
Angel takes him by the arm and tosses him out into the hallway ahead of him. Bleeding from a cut on his forehead, Angel looks back into his apartment as another section of the ceiling crashes down where Wesley was standing moments before.
ANGEL: (to Connor) It’s okay. It’s okay. It’s all right.
Wesley stares in horror as the blood from Angel’s wound drips down onto Connor’s blanket: a light blue blanket with fluffy white clouds on it.
WESLEY: Earthquake… fire… blood…
ANGEL: I thought we were going to be trapped in there, huh?
He looks down at the bloody blanket, then smiles at Wesley.
ANGEL: At least I would have had something to snack on.

Loyalty (S3,Ep15)

Lies and Betrayal

Wesley enters the deserted lobby. He hears Connor fussing in the bassinet and looks down at him for a moment, then retrieves Connor’s diaper bag and starts packing it.
LORNE: What are you doing?
He descends the stairs with a bottle in hand.
WESLEY: Hi. I’m taking Connor.
LORNE: Where?
WESLEY: To my place for the night. We’re going to the park in the morning. I talked to Angel before. He knows all about it. Are Fred and Gunn…?
LORNE: Out. Getting food. Boy, that girl can put away the chow! Oh, here. I heated up a bottle. Hey, Angel didn’t say anything about… well, he probably forgot. He went off in kind of a hurry.
WESLEY: What happened?
LORNE: Well, he was acting kind of weird this morning. I’m sure you noticed. Then when he came back from killing the Wraithers…
Connor starts fussing and Wesley soothes him.
WESLEY: Hey, it’s okay. It’s your Uncle Wes. You like your Uncle Wes.
We’re gonna have a great time.
Wesley bounces Connor in his arms and hums a quick lullaby. He looks up to see
Lorne staring at him and instantly stops singing. Lorne’s eyes go wide with shock
as Wesley slowly puts Connor back down in the bassinet, then launches himself
at Lorne. Lorne dodges him and runs into the office.
Wesley tackles him to the floor and they scuffle, tipping over Wesley’s desk in
the process. Wesley decks Lorne, then picks up a statue and beats him
unconscious with it. Panting heavily, Wesley hurries back to the bassinet and
picks up Connor.

WESLEY: Here. All right. That’s a boy. That’s a boy.
Wesley turns with Connor in his arms to find himself face-to-face with Angel.
WESLEY: Angel…
ANGEL: Where is everybody?
WESLEY: Fred and Gunn went for food. Lorne had to go out. I’m watching the baby. In fact, I packed up some overnight things. We talked about me taking Connor to the park and the one across from my place is… it’s always full of kids. I thought he could spend the night with me.
ANGEL: That’s probably a really good idea.
WESLEY: You want to say good-bye?
Angel takes Connor.
ANGEL: Okay. Hey! Sleep tight, big guy. Daddy will see you real soon. (to Wesley) Just keep an eye… I check on him a lot during the night. You’ve got his pediatrician’s number, his baby formula?
WESLEY: I’ve got all that.
ANGEL: You ever hear of a time-traveling demon by the name of Sahjahn?
WESLEY: No.
ANGEL: The guy that brought Holtz here. He thinks I’m his sworn enemy. I don’t know him from Adam. Can you hit the books before you go?
Wesley is nervous but trying not to show it. It gets worse when Fred and Gunn come back with the food.
GUNN: Hey. Where is Lorne? He better show his green face pronto or
Fred’ll eat his hoagie.
FRED: I will not! I already had two. (beat) Unless he’s really not here?
ANGEL: He had to go out.
GUNN: Where?
ANGEL: (to Wesley) Where did you say he went?
WESLEY: I don’t know. He didn’t say exactly. I think he had to see a client. You know, I’ve got better reference materials for your demon at home and Connor is getting sleepy. Why don’t I look into it there?
Angel reluctantly lets Wesley take the baby.
ANGEL: Okay. Just call me if you find something.
WESLEY: I guess, I’ll see everyone tomorrow.
ANGEL: Hey, Wes? What’s the closest emergency room to your place?
WESLEY: Drew Medical. One minute away. Top infant care center. Don’t worry.
Once outside, Wesley’s cool demeanor vanishes and he hurries down the sidewalk
with Connor.
(...)
Lorne, bruised and in pain, follows Gunn out of the office.
ANGEL: Jeez, Lorne. They got you good. You better sit down. (off his look) What?
LORNE: They didn’t do this to me. Wesley did.
Stunned silence.
ANGEL: Wesley? What are you talking about?
LORNE: Well, earlier when he came to pick up the baby, Connor started crying and Wesley hummed a little lullaby and I read him and… I don’t know why he did it.
ANGEL: Did what?
LORNE: He’s been to see Holtz behind your back. Twice. And he’s not taking the baby overnight. He’s taking the baby away… for good.
(...)
Wesley leaves the building carrying Connor and a suitcase. He pushes a button on his key chain and his car chirps as the doors unlock. He loads the suitcase into the back, then opens the side door. As he starts loading Connor inside, he hears a quiet sob and turns to find Justine, doubled over at the waist, stumbling through the trees.
Still holding Connor in one arm, he pulls a gun with his other and aims it at Justine.

WESLEY: That’s close enough.
Justine drops to her knees and looks up at Wesley through tear-streaked eyes.
WESLEY: Justine?
JUSTINE: He’s everything you said. It’s true.
Wesley lowers the gun and steps closer.
WESLEY: What happened?
JUSTINE: Well, he didn’t keep his word.
Wesley pockets the gun as Justine gets back to her feet and stumbles closer. Her face is bruised and beaten, her lip bloodied.
JUSTINE: He took everybody and he went after the baby. And when I questioned him… bastard! I’ll kill him for this. You have to get out of here.
She collapses against Wesley.
WESLEY: You have to get to hospital.
JUSTINE: No. I just have to do…
Justine’s hand suddenly whips out and the blade of the knife she was concealing slices across Wesley’s neck. He falls to his knees, one hand pressed over the bleeding gash, a look of stunned surprise on his face. Justine takes the baby from his arms and runs to the car. Wesley can only watch helplessly as she buckles Connor into the baby seat, then gets behind the wheel and drives off. He topples over into the grass, blood pumping out of his neck between his fingers.
(...)
GUNN: It doesn’t make any sense. Why would Wes do a thing like that? You must have read him wrong.
LORNE: No, I read him right. And I’ve got the gash on my noggin to prove it.
Fred hangs up the phone.
FRED: He isn’t answering his cell, pager or home.
ANGEL: Where is he?
One of the soldiers regains consciousness and starts inching along the floor toward the door, grimacing in pain and holding his broken rib.
LORNE: Shouldn’t we be getting these guys to a hospital or a morgue?
ANGEL: No. Holtz knew Connor wasn’t here when he walked through that door. He would have torn the place apart top to bottom. He was stalling.
LORNE: Buying Wesley some time to get away.
ANGEL: Holtz is the key. I want Holtz. If I find Wesley with him…
GUNN: Angel, we don’t know the whole story here. I don’t think you should get too pumped.
ANGEL: I’m not interested in what you think!
LORNE: Hey! Easy, guys!
ANGEL: (cold) He took my son.
GUNN: I know this is life and death. I’m just saying, let’s get—
Angel grabs Gunn by the shirt and slams him back against the wall.
ANGEL: He took my son!
GUNN: You better get your damn hands off of me!
FRED: Stop it! Stop it both of you! This isn’t helping, damn it!

Sleep Tight (S3, Ep16)

Revelations

INT. WESLEY’S APARTMENT
Gunn and Fred sit looking through Wesley’s recovered diaries and notes.
GUNN: (sighs) You getting anywhere?
FRED: Well, he was meticulous. He kept separate diaries for all the major players: Darla, Connor, Angel… and he’s frightened.
GUNN: Well, what’s he frightened of?
FRED: I’m not sure yet. Pending doom sort of thing in the later entries, some sort of prophecy he was trying to repudiate. It says here: It can’t be coming. It can’t be true.
GUNN: That’s doomy.
Gunn stand up and flips through more of the pages he’s holding.
FRED: So I guess what we’re looking for is this prophecy. I just don’t know where we’re going to—
GUNN: I do.
Gunn hands Fred a handwritten note:

FRED: The father will kill the son?
GUNN: Wes thought Angel…
FRED: … was going to kill Connor.
Fred looks back through her documents and smiles.
FRED: Yes! That’s the prophecy. Wesley couldn’t accept it. He kept trying to disprove it but the text and the commentaries… everywhere he turned kept bringing him back to the same place. This is great! I told you he had a reason for taking Connor.
GUNN: Yeah.
FRED: Wes did the right thing. The only thing he could do under the circumstances. Now we have to find Angel and tell him right away.
GUNN: And he’ll forgive Wesley for taking his son and giving him to his mortal enemy?
FRED: Well… maybe begin to forgive.

Forgiving (S3, Ep17)

Fred and Gunn come run in and stop Angel at the bottom of the steps.
FRED: We need to talk.
ANGEL: Not now.
Angel tries to get past her but Fred steps in his way again.
ANGEL: Fred!
FRED: There’s something you need to know before…
Angel moves around her and heads for the door.
FRED: The father will kill the son!
Angel stops on the landing and slowly turns around.
FRED: There is a prophecy in the Nyazian Scrolls. Wesley checked the translation, the commentaries, even went to the mystical Oracles, but he couldn’t disprove it.
GUNN: They already fed you Connor’s blood, bro. You said it yourself. He smelled like food.
FRED: He was trying to protect Connor.
GUNN: He was trying to protect you… same as we’re doing right now.
After a moment Angel turns back to the doors. Fred moves in front of him again.
FRED: Angel, the prophecy…
ANGEL: It’s a lie. I’d never hurt Connor.
FRED: How can you know that for sure?
ANGEL: I’d never hurt someone I care about. (cold) Now move.
Fred sees nothing but rage in his eyes and steps aside, letting Angel leave.
FRED: (to Gunn) We have to go after him.
GUNN: We can’t. He lays a finger on you, I’ll have to kill him myself.
Gunn turns to Lilah as she helps Linwood to his feet.
GUNN: What are they doing here?
LORNE: There was kidnapping, a spell, dark magick. It’s bad, kids.
LINWOOD: He’s going to pay for this.
LORNE: Really bad.

INT. RITUAL CEREMONIAL CHAMBER
Resume. Sahjahn walks casually into the room and approaches Gunn and Justine.
SAHJAHN: So. My home. Uninvited guests. This can’t end well.
GUNN: (to Fred) That’s the guy right?
FRED: Uh-huh.Hi, Justine. I remember you. One of Holtz’s groupies. You tried to cut off my head.
Sahjahn backhands her and she flies across the chamber and lands on the floor, unconscious.
SAHJAHN: Can’t tell you how much I missed doing that. (to Fred and Gunn) I also missed gravity, friction and smashing things to pieces.
He picks up a chair and shatters it on the table.
SAHJAHN: Let’s start with your skulls.
ANGEL: (o.s.) Or yours.
The demon turns to find Angel standing in the chamber entrance.
SAHJAHN: Angel. I’m guessing I have you to thank for the whole mortal coil thing.
ANGEL: Yeah. Tell you what. You take me to the Quortoth world, help me find my son, we’ll call it even.
SAHJAHN: Really? You and me? Buddy cop summer release? We iron out our wacky differences and bond? I don’t think so.
ANGEL: You’re taking me there.
SAHJAHN: Couldn’t even if I wanted to.
ANGEL: You’re lying.
SAHJAHN: No. That I’m telling the truth about. Your kid’s gone for good. I could open the Quortoth exactly one time. That’s why I chose it. Try again… the whole universe could go kaplooey. Bad for me, bad for America.
FRED: So what are you lying about?
SAHJAHN: Oh, well, I don’t like to brag but… read any good prophecies lately?
GUNN: You wrote the prophecies?
SAHJAHN: More a re-write.
FRED: The father will kill the son?
SAHJAHN: Yeah. I flitted back and forth in time. Changed the one that threatened me, polished some others. Flitted in a manly way… just so we’re clear. (to Angel) You’re not really my enemy. Your in my home and I’m going to kick your ass but you were never the point.
ANGEL: It was Connor.
SAHJAHN: Boy! Can’t put one over on you, can you? Oh, wait… already did. It’s pretty freaky the first time you see your name in a true prophecy all carved in blood on an official scroll. The one sired by the vampire with a soul will grow to manhood and kill Sahjahn. Me!
FRED: So you planted false prophecies, that Angel would kill his son, and Wesley believed them.
SAHJAHN: Thank god he had some spine. Holtz was useless. He wanted to raise your kid as his own! I’m living with a knife over my heart for 1100 years and he’s into petty revenge! If he’d just killed the damn thing while it was still in its mother we could have avoided all this.
Angel’s face morphs and he attacks Sahjahn but the demon slams him into the wall. Gunn hits him from behind but it’s like hitting a wall. Sahjahn pounds him to the floor and turns back to Angel as he gets to his feet and attacks again. They trade blows but it’s obvious Sahjahn has the advantage.
Fred picks up a tender of red hot coals and throws them into Sahjahn’s face. He shakes them off, unharmed, and shoots her a withering look.

FRED: Do I look like I need more skin problems?
Sahjahn tries to strike her but Angel knocks her out of the way.
Angel and Gunn attacks in tandem but neither of them is any match for Sahjahn.
The demon seizes Angel by the throat and slams him down on the table. He holds Angel immobile as he picks up a broken chair leg and raises it to strike.

SAHJAHN: Had to put your boy down. Pity. The kid had a big future. I mean big.
Justine suddenly reappears in the doorway, cradling a small bottle in her arms.
SAHJAHN: (to Angel) Oh well, we all gotta go sometime.
As the stake comes down, Justine opens the jar and Sahjahn is instantly sucked into it in a swirl of light.
SAHJAHN: No. No! Don’t do that! Nooo!
Justine closes the lid of the urn and sets it on the floor as the others pick
themselves up.

JUSTINE: Holtz left it.
FRED: What about Wesley?
JUSTINE: The park next to his place, that’s where I left him.

Forgiving (S3, Ep17)

(...)

Angel stares silently at Wesley’s tea set.
LORNE: Hey, I cleaned the Pentagram as best I could. The dry blood, well, that’s starting to be a look out there.
ANGEL: Thanks.
LORNE: Yeah, well, you know me. Like to keep busy.
ANGEL: It’s not right. All I could think about was getting my hands on Sahjahn. Fred and Gunn tried to keep me from…
LORNE: Going to far?
ANGEL: Nearly got them killed.
LORNE: Yeah, you did. I’m glad it didn’t work out that way.
Angel walks over to the sideboard and picks up one of the teacups.
ANGEL: You think Wesley is…?
LORNE: I don’t know. I hope for the best. You know, there is a bigger picture here, Angel. And in that bigger picture there is a glass.
ANGEL: If the words ‘glass is half full’ are about to come out of your mouth… don’t.
LORNE: No. No, this is more a glass half full of spiked blood. If Sahjahn and that lady lawyer had pulled off their feeding plan, you’d have Connor’s blood on your hands.
ANGEL: Don’t I anyway?
LORNE: No! You think there is something more you could have done? You did everything you could with the knowledge you had. Just like Wesley. You know, maybe the way to start forgiving yourself is by starting to forgive him.The telephone rings and Lorne picks it up.
LORNE: (into phone) Angel Investiga— hey, Fred! They did? And? Okay, where? Uhhuh.
Yeah, he’s right here. I’ll tell him. Okay, thanks.
ANGEL: They found Wesley.

INT. HOSPITAL WAITING ROOM— NIGHT 33
Angel enters the waiting room to find Fred and Gunn already there.
GUNN: Hey. It’s good you came, man.
ANGEL: He ask for me?
GUNN: Nah, he can’t speak yet. Trachea is all messed up. Lost a lot of blood. It’s just good you came.
FRED: He’s not completely out of the woods yet. Your being here can only help.
ANGEL: Can I see him?
FRED: I’m sure he’d like that.
Angel moves past them to the door of Wesley’s room and opens it.

Friendship Ended

INT. HOSPITAL ROOM— NIGHT 34
X-rays of Wesley’s throat line the wall. Wesley himself lies in bed, an IV running from his hand and a bandage around his throat. A heart monitor beeps in the background. Angel closes the door and walks over to the bed as Wesley’s eyes blink open.

ANGEL: Hey, Wes. I just… I want you to know I understand why you did it. I know about the prophecies and I know how hard it must have been for you to… do what you did. You thought I was going to turn evil and kill my son. I didn’t. It’s important you know that. This isn’t Angelus talking. It’s me, Angel. You know that, right? Wesley blinks his eyes once.
ANGEL: Good.
Angel rips the pillow out from under Wesley’s head and covers his face with it.
ANGEL: You son of a bitch, you’re going to pay for what you did! You took my son! You son of a bitch! You bastard!
Outside, Gunn and Fred’s look up as the heart monitor alarm goes off and orderlies run past them toward Wesley’s room.
ANGEL: You think I’d forgive you? No! Never! You’re gonna die! You hear me? You’re gonna pay!
Wesley struggles desperately beneath the pillow, trying to push Angel off. An orderly runs in and pulls Angel and the pillow off Wesley but Angel shrugs him off and pushes the pillow back down on Wesley’s face.
ANGEL: You took my son! You took my son!
FRED: Stop it!
ANGEL: You took my son!
Two more orderlies and Gunn grab a hold of Angel and drag him off Wesley.
GUNN: Angel! Stop!
ANGEL: Never! Never!
GUNN: Come on, man, stop!
ANGEL: I’ll kill him! You’re dead!
The orderlies and Gunn wrestle Angel out of the room.
GUNN: Angel, stop, man.
Wesley lies in his bed, gasping for breath.
ANGEL: (o.s.) You’re dead! You’re a dead man, Pryce! You’re dead! I’ll kill you! I’ll kill you! You’re a dead man! Dead!

Forgiving (S3, Ep17)

INT. LOS ANGELES HOSPITAL— WESLEY’S ROOM
Wesley lies in his hospital bed, staring up at the ceiling.
He turns as Fred enters with his box of possessions.

FRED: (smiles) Hi, Wesley. How are you feeling?
Wesley points to his throat and shakes his head as Fred sets the box down on a chair.
FRED: Oh. It’s not permanent though? I brought you some of your stuff from the office. Things there… are, well, things. Gunn and I found your notes about the baby, the prophecy. You took him away because you thought Angel was going to kill him. You were trying to protect them— both of them. I just wanted you to know I understand that. And I also wanted to say I thought what Angel tried to do to you was wrong and I’m sorry. (beat) But he was right to blame you, Wesley. You should have come to us. You should have trusted us instead of going to Holtz behind our back. You’re supposed to be our friend and you didn’t even… (beat) If Angel sees you again, he’ll kill you, Wesley. This time for real. Don’t come back to the hotel— ever. Fred turns to go but stops with her back to Wesley.
FRED: The prophecy was false. Angel was never going to hurt Connor. It was all for nothing.

Double or Nothing (S3,Ep18)

Confrontation

INT. WESLEY’S APARTMENT
Wesley stares silently at Gunn.
GUNN: Look, I don’t have time to get into it with you. I don’t even want to be here. The hotel is infested with something. Some kind of slug, jellyfish-type thing. We don’t know what they are or how to kill them.
WESLEY: Well, now, that is a problem.
GUNN: These things, there’s hundreds of them. They get inside you and soak up all the moisture out of your body. They drink you alive.
WESLEY: Why come to me? I’m sure Angel will figure out a way to kill them eventually.
GUNN: That’s not what I’m looking for. I need to know how to get these slugs out of someone who’s been infected, force it out somehow.
WESLEY: Sorry.
GUNN: Don’t give me that. If you could see what these things do…
WESLEY: Wish I could help.
GUNN: Wes…
WESLEY: Sorry you wasted your time.
GUNN: It’s Fred.
After a beat, Wesley turns and takes a bottle of booze out of the cabinet.
GUNN: What? We’re gonna have a drink now? Did you hear what I said? She is dying!
WESLEY: I was dying. Throat cut, life pouring out of me. You know why I fought to live again?
GUNN: Wes, I don’t have time—
WESLEY: I fought to live so I could see my friends again, to explain to the people I loved and trusted my side of what happened.
GUNN: We know what—
WESLEY: You don’t know anything.
He throws the bottle at Gunn, who barely manages to catch it.
WESLEY: I’ll help because it’s Fred but don’t come here again. Any of you.

The Price (S3, Ep19)

Vengeance

Wesley opens a couple of beers and hands one to Fred.
WESLEY: Vengeance. Sounds good.
FRED: Angel and Gunn want me to be all sweetness and light. Cute little Fred, she’ll turn the other cheek like a good girl. I mean, they saw what Professor Seidel is capable of! He opened that portal right in front of them.
WESLEY: They dealt with it handily enough.
FRED: You were there?
WESLEY: I read your article, saw you’d be speaking. It was an excellent piece. Although I’m not sure I understand how Pauli repulsion is so readily reversed. Layman’s opinion.
FRED: You’ve been keeping track of me?
WESLEY: Yes. Well, about this Professor Seidel, what did you have in mind?
FRED: Beyond pain, I’m not really sure. That’s why I came to you. Wesley sets his bottle down and leans forward.
WESLEY: Fred, you do know that everything Angel and Gunn told you is true. Vengeance will have a price and once you’ve acted, you can’t go back. You’ll have to live with your actions forever.
FRED: He’s a serial killer.
WESLEY: All right, then. I’m sure we’ll find an appropriate solution.
He goes over to his books and Fred watches over his shoulder as he flips through the pages.
WESLEY: Ah, here is something interesting. Once practiced in ancient Egypt.
FRED: Is that his tongue?
Fred’s cell phone chirps and she flips it open. But instead of the caller’s number, she finds a series of runic symbols on the display screen. Almost instantly, a fierce wind springs up in the apartment and a portal opens right in front of her and Wesley. Wesley drops the book and grabs onto her, throwing them both over the back of the sofa.
(...)
Wesley drives while Fred fits a bolt into a crossbow.
WESLEY: You remember everything we went over?
FRED: I do. And I’m going to give him exactly what he deserves. Thanks to you. (off his look) What?
WESLEY: I was just thinking… not that I don’t get his point but I’m surprised Gunn’s not here. No matter what the consequences.
FRED: Charles doesn’t have it in him. It’s part of what I love about him.
WESLEY: You can still back out if you think Gunn’s right.
FRED: It’s not about what’s right. Pull over there.
WESLEY: I’d ask to tag along.
FRED: But you know what the answer would be.
Wesley watches silently as she gets out of the car.

"Fred was doing to have the professor, that trapped her in the other dimension for 5 years, trapped there as well. Gunn asks her not to do it becaus eit will change her. Fred doesn't listen and continues the spell. Gunn grabs the professor as he's a bout to fall into the portal and breaks his neck before tossing him in. From this point in their relationship they look at each other differently and things start to unravel. Gunn begins to become bitter and distrusting towards Fred. He even gets upset at Wesley and accuses him of wanting Fred."GP

Supersymmetry (S4,Ep5)

Confrontation

GUNN: So I’m the muscle, huh?
Wesley turns to find Gunn sitting in the shadows behind the desk.
WESLEY: Sorry?
GUNN: Angel’s the man on the card. It’s his world. I’m not a leader no more. I don’t have that champion’s heart like Cordy and the brains, why that was you. So that leaves muscle.
WESLEY: What about Fred?
GUNN: Well, that’s the question, isn’t it? She’s pretty brainy, too. Maybe you two are kindred souls. Maybe that’s why she went to you for help getting revenge on that professor. Killing takes brains.
Wesley picks up the bottle.
WESLEY: I did what you weren’t prepared to do.
Gunn stands up and approaches Wesley.
GUNN: You have no idea what I— what I would do for her.
WESLEY: Is there some reason I should need to know?
GUNN: You think I don’t smell this a mile off? You think I don’t know why you keep coming back here?
WESLEY: Because you keep needing my help.
Wesley tries to leave but Gunn blocks him.
GUNN: I’m going to say this once. You move on Fred and I will put you down hard.
WESLEY: I’m glad to see you have such faith in your relationship.
GUNN: Keep pushing, English!
WESLEY: Do you think you could get out of my way?
Wesley tries to push past Gunn but Gunn grabs his arm.
GUNN: You know, once—
Gunn freezes as Wesley triggers his wrist blade and holds it to his throat.

WESLEY: Not all of us have muscle to fall back on.
Wesley retracts the blade and Gunn lets go of him.
GUNN: What happened to you, man?
WESLEY: I had my throat cut and all my friends abandoned me.

Spin the Bottle (S4,Ep6)

Fantasies

WESLEY enters his apartment to find LILAH waiting for him.
LILAH: Hard day at the office?
WESLEY: I’ve had worse.
LILAH: What happened?
WESLEY: Bugs.
LILAH: Giant?
WESLEY: Swarm. Why are you dressed like that?
Reveal Lilah dressed like Fred, pigtails and glasses.
LILAH: (Texas accent) Isn’t this what you like? Big brain and a tight little—
WESLEY: Lilah…
LILAH: (mocking) Forget about that evil witch. Let’s talk about me. I’m good and I’m pure and science turns me on and one day, if I pray hard enough and eat all my vegetables… I just might have hips.
WESLEY: Are you finished?
LILAH: Did it turn you on? Watching her up there in front of all those brainiacs, knowing she was the smartest one in the room?
WESLEY: Her theories deserve attention.
She wraps her arms around him.
LILAH: (smiles) Just her theories? I saw the way you looked at her. Oh, come on. Do you think I care about your little crush? Moon all you want over the Texas Twig… because I know whose bed you’ll be crawling into at the end of the day. (kisses him) Or the middle of it.
The kiss passionately. After a moment, Wesley pulls back.
WESLEY: You think you know me?
LILAH: Better than she ever will.
He pulls her close again and kisses her, then rips open her shirt. She fumbles with his zipper and pushes him back on the couch, straddling him. As he slides into her, she reaches up to take off her glasses.

WESLEY: Leave them on.
She hesitates, then slips the glasses back on and begins to move against him rhythmically.

Apocalypse Nowish (S4,Ep6)

Secrets, Lies

WESLEY:Enlighten me.
ANGELUS:Foul rag and bone shot to the heart. That’s where you live.
WESLEY:Meaning?
ANGELUS:You want to impress the girl. Move in, get her to love you. After a couple of days of chocolate-covered cherries…
He slams his hands against the bars and Wesley raises the crossbow.
ANGELUS:…you’ll bend her over the kitchen counter and—
WESELY:Is that supposed to rattle me?
ANGELUS:Kind of bony for my taste but… different strokes.
WESLEY:The Beast called you an adversary.
ANGELUS:I bet he loves to rub that shiny bald head against her softmilky skin. Mmmm… good.
Wesley looks up at the camera, worried. The others watch Angelus and Wesley on the monitor.
ANGELUS:(on camera)Come on, Wes. It’s not like your schoolgirl crush is a secret.
FRED:(nervous)Charles, remember. We can’t believe anything Angelus says.
GUNN:How about the stuff that’s true? Can we believe that?
CORDELIA:He distorts everything. He lies with the truth. It’s part of what makes him so dangerous.
LORNE:(to Fred)Yeah, don’t let him get to you, kiwi.
GUNN:He’s not the only one that’s gettin’.
FRED:Charles…
GUNN:I know, I know.
FRED:It’s just words.
WESLEY:(on camera)You found a vulnerability and exploited it. Well done.
WESLEY:Can we move on now?
ANGELUS:(laughs)I’m just getting started. I’ll tell you this. All that digging you’ve been doing on the horny giant? Wrong place.
WESLEY:And the right place?
ANGELUS:I could tell you… but it wouldn’t be sporting.
WESLEY:But you were adversaries, you and the Beast.
ANGELUS:A guy like me… friends, enemies… hard to keep track.
WESLEY:If he was an enemy, I’d be doing you a favor by destroying him.
ANGELUS:You know, you’re not fooling anyone. Get some new clothes, cool haircut, hit the gym… you’re still the same loser none of the other kids wanted to sit with at lunch.
WESLEY:Yet you’re locked in that cage and I’m out here.
ANGELUS:So? You got no leverage. What are you going to do? Kill me?
WESLEY:If I have to.
ANGELUS:(laughs) Wait till they drop, Wes, then try that line again.
WESLEY:I’ll put your soul back. You won’t talk? No problem. We’ll bring Angel back and be no worse off than we were.
ANGELUS:Making you a failure again.
WESLEY:You want to waste my time, you can rot down here.
He turns to leave.
ANGELUS:Nice stamina, Wes. No wonder Fred’s not interested.

"Soulless" (S4, Ep11) from Angel

Secret Revealed

Wesley stands guard over Angelus with a crossbow. They both look up as Fred descends the stairs.
ANGELUS: Hey, we were just talking about you. At least I was, anyway.
WESLEY: What is it?
FRED: Cordelia had a vision. She knows how to put his soul back.
ANGELUS: (laughs) I guess the Powers saw how bad you guys suck.
FRED: Doing better than you.
WESLEY: Fred…
ANGELUS: Oh! She really has put on the spunk, hasn’t she, Wes? Not the same shy bitch-cow we pulled out of Pylea.
FRED: There’s only one bitch here and I’m looking at him.
ANGELUS: Oh, come on. We all know it’s for the best. Now you can go for the real prize. Mmm… man, I’m telling you, if I swung that way… look at him. All rugged and handsome. And brains! Man, he’s damn near perfect.
WESLEY: Thank you.
He and Fred turn to go.
ANGELUS: Except the part about banging Lilah for the past six months. That kinda takes the shine off.
Fred stops and stares at Angelus, incredulous, then notices Wesley’s expression.
WESLEY: Fred…
FRED: No, it’s… it’s none of my business. I should…
She turns and runs up the stairs, Angelus chuckling in the background.

Calvary (S4,Ep12)

Fred and Wesley review their research.
FRED: This is hopeless. The Orb of Thesulah is the only way I can find to restore Angel’s soul but that only works if it’s moved on to an afterlife or something, not floating in a jar somewhere.
WESLEY: We’ll find a way to bring Angel back.
FRED: How?
WESLEY: The way we always do. Skill, perseverance… luck.
FRED: (smiles) Not a lot of that going around.
WESLEY: We’ll be all right.
FRED: (pointed) As long as we stick together.
WESLEY: Fred, what happened between me and Gunn… I didn’t mean… that’s not what I wanted. Could you tell him that?
FRED: I don’t think he’ll listen. We’re not… we’re not together anymore.
Wesley is taken aback by the news.
WESLEY: Oh. Not because of what I did?
FRED: Things just haven’t been right. Not for a while.
Wesley moves toward her.
WESLEY: I think this is part where I’m supposed to say I’m sorry. And I’m really trying to be but…
He leans in as if to kiss her but Lilah and Cordelia enter, interrupting. Fred turns away, back to the books.
LILAH: Any progress?
FRED: Not really.
LILAH: Pity.
WESLEY: I made some headway cross-referencing but there’s no telling how long it’ll take to get anything definitive.
CORDELIA But you have made some progress?
LILAH: (smiles) Sure looks like he’s trying.
She glances at Fred who looks away, embarrassed.

Calvary (S4,Ep12)

Guilty Conscience

Wesley sits in the dark, staring at Lilah’s body. After a moment, he stands up and unwraps the plastic. He lifts the axe and looks down at her. As he brushes the hair from her face, her eyes open and she smiles at him.
LILAH: Why so glum? It is kind of what you wanted, isn’t it? I mean, deep down. Me out of the picture. Utterly… finally… you can’t get utter than this. It makes your life simpler, doesn’t it? Cleaner?
WESLEY: I didn’t want this.
She sits up and shrugs off the plastic.
LILAH: Come on, what are you worried about, Wesley? You hated yourself for being with me. Or maybe, you just hated yourself for loving being with me. Hey, semantics. In any case, we both knew sooner or later it would come to messy end. For one of us, anyway.
She gets up and walks around behind him.
LILAH: So ease up on that furrowed brow. You’re free now. No longer encumbered with the secret shame of our relationship.
WESLEY: It wasn’t a relationship.
LILAH: There’s a signed dollar bill in your wallet I think proves different. (beat) You knew how I felt.
WESLEY: You don’t feel.
LILAH: The only true thing I ever—
He turns away.
WESLEY: You didn’t love me!
And Lilah is back on the table, cold and still.
WESLEY: You couldn’t.
She walks out of the shadows behind him again.
LILAH: We’ll never know now, will we?
(...)
Wesley is still with Lilah’s body, conflicted over what he feels for her. He looks past her corpse to find her sitting across from him, talking to him again.
LILAH: I know what it is. The reason you’re having such a hard time with this. Why you’re taking so long to… you know.
She makes a slicing motion across her throat.
LILAH: The awful truth: you couldn’t save me. And this is the exclamation point.
WESLEY: I saved you from the Beast… for all the good it did.
LILAH: Wesley, you know that’s not what I’m talking about. You couldn’t save me… from me.
WESLEY: Is that what you thought?
LILAH: (laughs) Me? Lover, I’m not even here. I’m just a figment in your devilishly handsome head. So clearly, it’s what you thought. For all your supposed darkness, your edge-ofthe- razor mystique, there was always a small part of you that thought you could pull me back from the brink of my evil, evil ways. Help me find redemption.
WESLEY: Redemption…
LILAH: Angel’s influence, I suppose. The whole “not giving up on someone no matter how far he or she has fallen”. Oh, well. Too late for me.
Wesley gets up with the axe and stands in front of Lilah’s body.
LILAH: So let’s just get it over with. That body’s not going to dismember itself, you know.
He raises the axe.
WESLEY: I’m sorry, Lilah.
LILAH: Oh, Wes, we don’t have that word in our vocabulary. Not people like you and—
Wesley brings the axe down and severs her head. He’s alone in the basement. Lilah is gone for good.

Salvage (S4,Ep13)

Willow drops some herbs into a jar filled with red liquid and it starts to smoke.
WILLOW: Look, it’s working.
WESLEY: I thought Delothrian’s Arrow was used to protect good magicks.
WILLOW: It is.
WESLEY: So how can you use it to break the jar? The muo-ping is a sacred object. It’s holy.
WILLOW: It’s glass, therefore crunchable. The sacred’s what’s inside.“ All life a container…”
WESLEY:“… for the heart of all life.” You’ve studied the Daharim.
WILLOW: It had to be something specific. There’s lots of jars in the world. Can’t shatter ’em all. Well, I mean, you could but good things come in jars. Peanut butter, jelly… those twoheaded fetal pigs at the natural history museum. (off his look) Come on! Everybody loves fetal pigs.
WESLEY: Sorry. I think my sense of humor’s trapped in a jar somewhere.
WILLOW: It does seem like you’ve given in to the grumpy side of the Force.
WESLEY: A lot’s happened. Not just Angelus. I’ve been… I’ve changed. I’ve seen a darkness in myself. I’m not sure you’d even begin to understand.
WILLOW: I flayed a guy alive and tried to destroy the world.
WESLEY: Oh. So…
WILLOW: Darkness. Been there.
WESLEY: Yes. Well, I never… flayed. I had a woman chained in a closet.
WILLOW: Oh, well, hey!
WESLEY: Nah, it doesn’t compare.
WILLOW: No, dark! That’s dark. You’ve been to a place.
WESLEY: You seem exactly the same as when I left. No other major changes I’m not up on?
Willow shakes her head, suppressing a smile.
WILLOW: Just little things. (beat) So… Fred. What’s her story?
Wesley looks away, then does a double take.
